Version note: This guide is for TallyPrime Release 7.0 onwards. Menu names may vary slightly by release.
Before troubleshooting
- Take a backup and keep the original company data unchanged.
- Note the exact error, TallyPrime release, company, action and time.
- Test the fix in a backup company whenever possible.
1. License or TSS error
Check the internet connection, then open F1 (Help) > Settings > Manage License. Review the license status and reactivate or update it if required. If the error continues, record the message before contacting Tally support.
2. Company does not open
Confirm the correct data path and Windows permissions. Do not delete, rename or replace company files randomly. If the data is damaged, use TallyPrime’s supported repair or support process on a copy of the data.
3. TallyPrime is slow
- Close unused companies and reports.
- Reduce unnecessary report columns and filters.
- Check free disk space and antivirus exclusions recommended by your IT administrator.
- For multi-user setups, check the server and network performance.
4. GST report mismatch
Verify the company GSTIN, registration, party GSTIN, HSN/SAC, tax ledgers, voucher date, place of supply and tax rate. Correct the source voucher and recompute the relevant GST report. Do not change figures only to force a report match.
5. Import fails
Check the file format, mandatory fields, date format, voucher type, ledger names and duplicate-handling settings. Import a small test file first and keep the import summary for audit purposes.
6. Backup or restore problem
Confirm the selected folder, access permissions, backup date and backup version. Restore into a separate folder first. Verify ledgers, vouchers, GST reports, Trial Balance, outstanding balances and bank reconciliation before replacing live data.
7. Printing or PDF problem
Check the selected printer, paper size, print range, preview and PDF destination. Test with a small report. If only one report fails, compare its print configuration with a working report.
8. ODBC or Excel connection problem
Confirm that ODBC is enabled, the port is available, the company is open and the TallyPrime, driver, Windows and Office 32-bit/64-bit configurations are compatible. Keep ODBC on a trusted network and never expose the port directly to the public internet.
9. Sync or online service issue
Check internet connectivity, service status, login details and the Event Log. Retry only after correcting the reported cause. Record the exchange or sync reference if one is shown.
10. How to investigate any unresolved error
- Open F1 (Help) > Troubleshooting > Event Log.
- Capture the exact error message without exposing passwords or confidential data.
- Note the release, company, user, action and time.
- Contact your Tally Partner or Tally support with the details.
Prevention checklist
- Schedule backups and test restoration periodically.
- Keep TallyPrime updated and document release changes.
- Use appropriate user permissions.
- Keep GST master data accurate.
- Maintain an audit trail for corrections and imports.
